BlizzCon 2011!-10/23/11
Wow! The last two days have been amazing! Where to start? Well, the opening ceremony was awesome and there were a lot of cool announcements made. It started out with a video to get the fans hyped up, then the president, CEO, and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime was introduced.
Mike mentioned that this was the sixth BlizzCon and Blizzard turned twenty back in February! He also talked about what Cataclysm added to the game and how there will be more to come! Currently, Patch 4.3- Hour of Twilight is being tested on the test realms and will be the biggest update for Cataclysm. This patch will have “the most epic raid content that World of Warcraft has ever seen”, Deathwing will be defeated and rogues will get a legendary! Starcraft II and Cataclysm were both released in China this year!
“As of right now, every World of Warcraft player in the world, has played the same version of the game, which hasn’t happened since Burning Crusade.”
World of Warcraft will be released in Brasilian Portugese in December, being the 10th language of the game.
“Speaking of our global community, I’d like to give a shout out to everyone watching BlizzCon live on television and online via Direct TV. More than 60,000 people from 130 countries bought a virtual ticket.”
26,000 people attended BlizzCon 2011. Attendees came from every single state in the United States and as far away as Australia.
“In all this time, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed. Although we’ve grown a lot from three college guys to all this, we’re still as dedicated as we’ve always been to making great games.”
Mike also thanked Blizzard fans for making it possible for them to do what they love for a living and supporting their charitable efforts. This year, 2.7 million dollars was donated to the Make a Wish Foundation and the victims of the Tsunami in Japan. They also recently started a charitable
Server Blade Auction, the auctioning of realm blades from when World of Warcraft was first launched.
Some details of Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm have already been announced earlier this year. Mike announced that at this BlizzCon, fans would be able to try out the campaign and “get an exclusive first look at the new multiplayer content.”
This year, Blizzard invited “Red Shirt Guy” from BlizzCon 2010 to come back and join them again at BlizzCon 2011. If you don’t know who “Red Shirt Guy” is, look him up on YouTube by clicking
here! In addition to “Red Shirt Guy” being back, Jay Mohr was also there to host the contests on the first night and the artists formerly knows as the Level 90 Elite Tauren Cheiftans played in the concert on the second night. Foo Fighters also came to play in the concert on the second night!
Mike talked about Diablo III too. They are working on finishing up the game and making it available to fans soon! An updated version of Diablo III was available to play at BlizzCon.
Mike told the audience about an idea he had for a WoW annual pass. When purchasing the annual pass, players would also receive a free copy of Diablo III. When it goes live, these players would be able to download it and play it instantly. Not only would these players receive a free copy of Diablo III, but also access to the next World of Warcraft expansion BETA and an exclusive in-game mount, Tyreal’s Charger. The annual pass is now available to buy.
After Mike Morhaime’s speech and a
video of the fifteen years of Diablo III, Chris Metzen was introduced. Chris talked about and showed a video of Diablo III, Blizzard DOTA, and Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Each video was awesome and had a lot of cool stuff in them! To view the videos, just click on the links to each video above.
Last, Chris talked about the new World of Warcraft Expansion, Mists of Pandaria. Before introducing the
video, he talked about it for a little bit. In the past three expansions, some kind of crisis was produced that brought the Horde and Alliance together and made them put aside their differences to defeat the crisis (Illidan, The Lich King, Death Wing). For the new expansion, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, the crisis will be war itself. The Horde and Alliance will no longer put aside their differences, but actually battle it out. The war will be set in a land of harmony, beauty, and hope. “That is, until we arrive.” said Chris. This place being, Pandaria, where the Pandaren Race live in peace. The expansion will also introduce a new class, the Monk. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m excited about this new expansion!
After the Mists of Pandaria video, the opening ceremony was over and it was time to experience BlizzCon. There was so much to do! All the latest game content was available for playing. This included Diablo III, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. Sabria and I got the chance to play Mists of Pandaria. We both liked it a lot! We played the Pandaren Monk and got to try out some of the new content in Pandaria. It is such a peaceful place and really fun to do quests in.
There were also a lot of professional gaming going on too. $300,000 was going to be given out that weekend! The Starcraft II Global Season Finals were being held at BlizzCon 2011! This was the first time that the GSL finals would be held anywhere outside of Korea, which made it really exciting. Known professional gamers, Mvp and MMA competed in the Starcraft II Finals. Slayer_mma ended up winning with a score of 4 games to 1 game in the 5 game final! It was very exciting to watch and see how strategic the players had to be and how important each click was.
There are also so many other things to do. Attendees could go around to different booths to try things out and see what each booth was about. They could also attend panels where developers talk about game content, making the games, what’s in store for the games, etc. There were signing booths and different stages with different events to go to. There was even an artist stage where people could see how Blizzard Artists make the art and put it into the games and an art gallery to see some cool art from Blizzard.
We also got to use some things from our goody bags to do stuff around BlizzCon. Each goody bag had a steelseries key for each attendee to try out to open a chest. We didn’t win but it was still fun. The goody bags had quests for attendees to complete too. By doing these quests, people were able to win some free stuff.
On the first night, we got to watch the BlizzCon contests. The contests include song, video, art, dance, and costume. The costume contest was my personal favorite. Third place went to
Deathwing's Human Form. Second went to A Paladin with Ashbringer and Judgement Set. First place went to an incredible StarCraft II Adjutant. Click here to checkout the World of Warcaft video contest winners. Click here for a Starcraft II video winner. Don’t forget to watch the dance contest video!
Another cool thing about the event was the store. A lot of new stuff was for sale and there was a couple BlizzCon Exclusives! We bought the BlizzCon Exclusive MegaBloks Battlecruiser. We also bought bought t-shirts, hoodies, and other things. There was just so much to choose from.
In addition to bringing those things home, we also got to bring home all the things from our BlizzCon 2011 Goody Bags. Some things from the goody bags included a Thrall Megablok, an account authenticator, a Tyrael Figurine, a “Murkablo” in-game pet card, and a lot more!
The second night ended with the closing ceremony. It was sad that the two days of BlizzCon were already over but it was a good close to the event. It started out with a video of some highlights of the last couple days of BlizzCon. After that, the Level 90 Elite Tauren Cheiftans came out and played a few cool songs. And finally, what everyone was excited about, the Foo Fighters came out! They played a lot of songs and put on a really nice show. It was actually my favorite of all the past BlizzCons. They played some of their best songs and got the crowd really excited. It was one of the best closing ceremonies yet!
BlizzCon 2011 went by so fast, but there was still just so much to do and so many new announcements! We were able to get pictures and interviews from the event that will be up soon, so be sure to check them out. We were even able to recruit some more BlizzKidz. 11/7/10- Blizzcon 2010
Wow! BlizzCon was amazing! There were so many things to do, this had to be one of the best BlizzCons yet! The first day consisted of panels, beta, and some great contests! We got to take lots of pictures, which will be on the site soon! My personal favorite thing was being able to beta games. I most enjoyed playing cataclysm. I was able to try out the worgens and the goblins. The worgens were pretty cool but the goblins were probably my favorite. Every quest lets you try out new things, it was awesome! The contests were pretty cool. There was a video contest, orginal song contest, fan art contest, dance contest, and costume contest. The grand prize for the video contest went to "The Rocket of Love" - Jeffrey Cuiper. 3rd place went to "Mafioso Swing" - Johan Vagstedt. 2nd was "I am Forsaken" - Kevin Lobine, and 3rd was "A Crit(t)ical Incident" - Nico Sanft. For the original song contest, 3rd place went to "For the Swarm" by Nicholas Stephen Tomasseti, 2nd went to "Requiem for Arthas" - Hao- Wei Huang, and 3rd went to "The Queen of Blades" -Saher Behrooznia. Third place for the fan art contest was "Warcraft Battle Scene" - Jun Huang, 2nd place was "StarCraft Protoss vs. Zerg" - Sangrok Lee, and 1st place was "World of Whelpcraft" -Christina Marie Yen. For the dance contest, 3rd place went to Evonne Marvin for her Goblin Female Dance. 2nd place went to Tim Townley for the Dwarf Female Dance, and 1st place went to Chase Creekmur for the Dwarf Male. Now finally, the Costume contest (my personal favorite of the contests!) 1st place went to Christina Estrada as a female monk from Diablo III, 2nd place went to Armando Farfen Jr. as as Illidan Stormrage, and 3rd place went to Brenna Bozanic in her Ysera costume. The runners up for the costume contest were KeiKei Flores as Jaina Proudmore and Elizabeth Cornstock as the female witch doctor. You can check out the winning videos, songs, and fan art for the contests this year at Blizzcon.com or just click
here! Now for the Tournaments! The winner of the World of Warcraft Arena was *aAa*, the winner for Warcraft III was Remind, and the winner for StarCraft II was NEXGenius. If you would like to see the brackets for these tournaments, you can go to Blizzcon.com or head right over here! The second day also consisted of many panels, more games to beta, and an awesome Tenacious D concert. There were even StarCraft II mods availabe to beta such as Aiur Chef, Left 2 Die, StarJeweled, and Blizzard DOTA. BlizzCon 2010 was a great experience!! My First Experience with Blizzard Games-5/10/10
Today I happened to remember my first experience with Blizzard games, so I thought I'd share with you all. I remember I was about 9 years old and my dad got World of Warcraft for Christmas. I watched him play sometimes and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. One day, he decided to let me play! Yes, I'm not too fond of Alliance, but my first character on WoW happened to be a gnome mage named Natasha. I leveled her all the way up to level 8 before I finally got my own account. I remember I was running around in the snow trying to complete my quests and getting lost, so I tried using my hearthstone. Somehow, I destroyed my hearthstone and no longer had it, I have no idea how that happened, but I was lost, in the snow, without a hearthstone. I was really mad and had no idea what to do, but finally my dad helped me back to my town and I continued killing the snow rabbits hopping around and completing quests, it was very fun! Well that was my first experience with Blizzard games, I had no idea what I was getting myself into! But everything turned out alright and I enjoy playing Blizzard games such as WoW and Starcraft all the time!

    Congrats to Sabria!-5/1/10
A couple weeks ago, a fellow Blizzkid member, Sabria the tanking warrior, reached level 80!! It wasn't so long ago when she got stuck in a chimney doing her quests and couldn't get out. I would just like to congratulate her on the site! Today, when we used dungeon finder for a heroic random instance, we got Utgarde Pinnacle. We were very worried that there was no way we would get past Skadi the Ruthless. We finally came to Skadi and wiped pretty quickly. We tried a second time and we did a little better but still wiped. Finally, on our third try, Sabria kept the adds grouped all the way to the end and did a wonderful job. We successfully killed Skadi and moved on to the last boss and completed the instance! Congrats to Sabria for doing a wonderful job today, keep up the good work. Guess what else? I got the Greedy achievement along the way, woohoo!

    StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty-4/6/10
Over the past couple weeks I've had the chance to beta test StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (Multiplayer) and I want to tell all of you a little about it. First of all, I usually only play Terran, but I have also tried out one of the other races, Zerg. I havn't tried out protoss just yet. What I enjoy most about playing Terran is being able to use the cloaked banshees. If your playing against a newer player, you can just bring in those banshees, cloak them, and the new player has no idea what to do, it's very entertaining! It won't work against an experienced player though. :) I really like using the thors but they are very expensive to create. I've only had the chance to play StarCraft: Brood War a few times so I decided to head over to
http://www.starcraft2.com/ to learn more about the changes and enhancements in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Here are some of them:
    • · New units and gameplay mechanics
    • · real-time strategy gameplay that recaptures and improves on the magic of the original game
    • · outstanding single player campaign (I havn't had the chance to try single player yet)
    • · new 3-D Graphics engine (supports visual effects and massive unit and army sizes)
    • · New competitive feature and matchmaking utilities through Battle.net available for multiplayer
    • · Full map-making and scripting tools
  • You can learn a lot more about StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, units, and structures right over here! I hope all of you will get a chance to play the game either in a beta test or when it comes out, it's a great game!

    Blizzcon 2009 already over :( -8/23/09
Blizzcon was awesome. It started with an opening ceremony announcing the new class on Diablo III, the monk. Next, announcing the new World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. In the new expansion Azeroth will be changed entirely. There are two new races. The Goblins have joined the Horde and the Alliance now have Worgens. There are also new race/class combinations such as a Tauren Paladin, a Gnome Priest, and a Dwarf Shaman. There will also be new quest flows for levels 1-60 and new areas for level 80s to level to 85. The Worgen and Goblin starting place will actually be on the same Island. I got the chance to try out the new expansion, it was great, and so were the quests. We got to listen to the artists formerly known as the Level 80 Elite Tauren Cheiftan, who are now known as Tafkal 80 ETC! The day finally closed with an OZZY OSBOURNE contests, it was crazy! Blizzcon 2009 was great, but it's sad that it's already over :(.

WOTLK flooded the stores on the 13th! They sold 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours. This broke the PC computer record for sales. The record they broke was actually from Burning Crusade when it sold 2.4 million copies. From those results, I'm sure a lot of you have been playing lately. Good luck to level 80 and have fun with the Death Knights!!! Also for those who don't already know, they are giving free transfers to avoid the horrible wait time. Blizzcon: Already gone-10/12/08
Blizzcon was awesome, but were all sad that its over....We are very happy that we got the chance to come and get to tell everyone all about it! First we arrived at the convention center, the lines went forever! We walked for 10 minutes before we finally got to the end of the line. Lines are slowly moving with very eager people. There were a couple cool costumes but they were hard to see in the crowded lines.
We finally got inside and its pretty packed! Everyone is finding their seat for the opening ceremony, we couldn't wait!
The opening ceremony finished and we got in a very long line for a jinx murloc. The line for the store probably contained half the gamers. People are everywhere, I can't believe how packed it is. There are so many things going on, Tournaments, beta testing, exhibits, etc.
We finally got done with the lines and then sat back and watched Diablo III, and we even learned the 3rd new class, a wizard, in the opening ceremony. We can't wait till
    the contests at six!
The contests were awesome! There were jokes, dances, videos, and costumes. I really wish they showed us the videos, but we got to see all the other contests so it was still awesome. Jay Mohr was the comedian for it, and he was great.
The next day came around. Kennedy got her face painted as a murloc. Savannah got a horde insignia. I was watching a WoW tournament during that so I didn't get one. Americans beat the Chinese in arena pretty good. We also got a WoW mini board game that we demoed. Its a really fun game. We did all kinds of cool things all day and then got our seats for the big concert.
The concert started with some comedians to build up some excitement. Later the Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftains came out and rocked the stage, which included and exciting new Death Night song. Ending with their last song, I Am Murloc, which they played last year and is my personal favorite. After the Tauren Chieftains, Video Games Live came out and played some pretty cool video game music with their orchestra. It was really cool. Blizzcon was the BEST!!!!!
